Welcome back. We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and are well rested for what promises to be another busy and exciting half term in Holly Class. We are already blown away by the children’s attitude to learning this half term; their resilience and stamina!
This half term in English we are exploring cumulative stories, with a focus on The Enormous Turnip, There was an Old Lady who swallowed a Fly and The Shopping Basket. We will be learning these stories through drama, puppetry, retelling and rewriting. We are also sharing a variety of similar stories during story time, which is a firm favourite in Holly class.
Throughout the remainder of the school year, every child will have the opportunity to bring in their favourite story and to write a book review, recommending their favourite story to their peers. We can’t wait to share these stories. As a side note, thank you to everyone who sends in their reading diary every day. This is so important and is very much appreciated! Reading with your child at home really helps to foster and encourage a love of reading, and highlights the value of it too.
In maths we will be working on number including addition and subtraction, and inverse operations to solve missing number problems. We will be further exploring halving objects and numbers and identifying and using money.
Our science topic this half term will have a focus on the weather and the changing seasons. The children will have the opportunity to explore these changes first hand at Forest School and will be creating weather logs in the classroom to demonstrate and deepen their understanding.
As a reminder, we now have Forest School on a Thursday Morning, Indoor PE on a Monday afternoon and outdoor PE on a Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to send in the appropriate kit and uniform, so that your child can comfortably participate in these lessons.
We’re glad to have you all back and look forward to this half terms adventures!
